LE MOULIN ROUGE
The Moulin Rouge is one of the most famous cabarets in the world. Located in Paris, at the foot of Montmartre Hill, it is easily recognisable thanks to its distinctive red mill.
Founded in 1889 by Joseph Oller and Charles Zidler on the occasion of the Paris World Exhibition, it has become an indispensable venue in Parisian nightlife since its opening, mixing celebration, music, dance and performance. It is best known for popularising the French Cancan, an energetic and daring dance that has become a symbol of the freedom and festive spirit of the Belle Époque. Many famous artists, such as Toulouse-Lautrec, have contributed to its fame by immortalizing its dancers and its unique atmosphere. Over the decades, the Moulin Rouge has passed through different eras, modernising but retaining its identity.
At the Moulin Rouge, all professions are completely internalized, guaranteeing a unique know-how and perfect control over every detail, from the artistic creation to the performances on stage. From the rigor of the ballet to the finesse of the cuisine, through the design and implementation of costumes by fashion houses, costumes, sets, technicians, dancers and artistic teams work closely together to bring to life the excellence of this house.
The front side of the coin
The obverse of this coin features two French cancan dancers in the foreground, captured in dynamic movement. In the background is the legendary Moulin Rouge, with its distinctive wings and a backdrop of a French cancan painting depicting part of the Eiffel Tower. The initials Moulin Rouge complete the design.
The reverse side of the coin
The reverse of the coin is composed around the iconic wings of the Moulin Rouge. Each part of the coin refers to an artistic craft: costume design, featherwork, embroidery, shoemaking and ballet. These are intertwined with elements of the festive and spectacular world of the Moulin Rouge. The whole pays tribute to the craftsmanship that contributes to the magic of cabaret. The bottom of the coin bears the designation "RF" and the year of mintage. At the top of the coin, the mintmark of the Paris Mint, Joaquin Jimenez and the engraver's workshop are stamped, as well as the denomination.
